Yesterday, as I drove back to work from my lunch break, someone ran into my car. I had just turned the corner and he pulled out of a parking lot into the back passenger door of the car. We were both going very slowly, so there were no injuries, thank goodness! Just a scraped dent along the bottom half of the door and some crumpling around the wheel well.
If you're interested, this was the scenario (I'm blue, he's red):
Despite the nasty and insinuating comments of the police officer at the precinct yesterday, this was actually the first time I've been in a moving accident where I was the driver and I have to admit that it flustered me. I didn't get all the information that I should have and it's made for a slightly more stressful 12 hours, waiting to see if the other driver would call me back with the required info (otherwise, it would have to go in as a "hit and run", and we'd have to pay the deductible.)
Fortunately, he called me back early this afternoon and was still very pleasant. We exchanged all the required info and urged me to call back if we needed anything else. So, the insurance company has set up the claim and will be calling his company. And I've made an appointment with the insurance company's preferred body shop for Friday. Once they've made an assessment, then things will move along. All the arrangements for a rental car are supposed to be done for us, if we're returning the car for repair, and I'd have to say that so far, I'm very pleased.
It could still all go horribly wrong, but so far it's running just like an insurance company ad. Stuart is getting progressively less grumpy as the other driver continues to accept responsibility and the insurance company is actually looking after things. And my slightly queasy stressed out tummy is also hesitantly relaxing, so some restful sleep tonight would be great!
