This was a good year. I love Halloween, it's my favorite holiday and we bought a house, so it all came together. I wanted to do the house up as a mad scientist's lair and make costumes for us. So I did! We got some chain and attached it to the tree out front, and then scattered around Ursa's old chewed bones. I bought a skull with blinking green eyes that we hung from the tree. I carved two Jack O'Lanterns (one with a scary tree and one with a startled expression and a straw in it's forehead.) Stuart "borrowed" a clean biohazard bucket from work and we put all the candy in it to hand out (we called them "failed experiments".) He also borrowed some beakers that we set up with glowing colored water. And finally, we bought a fog machine and set it up in the front yard.
Stuart wore his old stained lab coat with a pillow stuffed in to make a hump back. I drew a third eye on his forehead. I made myself an old style white nurses uniform and bought a little cap and some glittery red horns. And, of course, Ursa is in her Halloween costume every day of the year! Every mad lab needs a hellhound to growl at the little munchkins and she did her job to perfection. Some kids actually ran back to their parents! LOL
We had about 60 kids come by, although I forgot to keep track exactly. Things I want to add for next year? More skulls, a better light set-up on the chain and a clicker to count the visitors. :)
The only downside of the evening was that I got sick. I don't know if it was food poisoning (although I ate the same food as Stuart and Laurie) or if I picked up a stomach bug, but at about 8:30 I started feeling queasy. It headed downhill from there and I spent a large part of the night with my digestive system doing bad things from one end to the other. Ugh. I definitely don't want to reprise that next year!
