A good Friday

Goodness, I almost forgot to post today!

I stayed in this morning and tried to get some work done.  Not that I DID much, just spent several hours reading a new chunk of documentation and trying to get a feel for it.  It's kind of a toss-up - it makes more sense to read with the software open along side, but it's hard on the little laptop screen and very slow through the remote connection.  It goes faster just reading the doc, and as I'm getting more familiar with the product in general, it's easier to make sense of.  We'll see.

I had my left over pad sew for lunch and made a quick trip down the block to Lush.  It's not my favorite place (too stinky) but some of the products are ok away from the nasal cacophony and I wanted bath bubbles!  Then I packed up the days gifts and the empty kennel and headed for the Metro.  The weather report said that it was -5C, but the sun was shining, the breeze was light and I thought it was delightful.  It was sad to have to head down into the Metro.

And the contrast in climate is amazing.  The Metro tunnels are always warm and damp - at some points, Carmen and I have agreed that it feels like being parboiled.  Coming back up, even at night when it's quite chilly, it feels positively luxurious to get out of the muggy air.

All the patients at the recovery home are doing well.  They all have their ups and downs, but it's obvious by today that they are all improving.  Michelle continues to lead the pack, with Veronique not far behind.  But the other two were much more aware and willing to talk today, which was nice.  The previous group left yesterday and the "newbies" arrived in the evening.  I saw a few of them today, but didn't really have a chance to meet or chat with any of them.  Michelle got to have a bunch of the packing removed and take a shower, which I know made her happy.  Every day now, it's seems like there's another milestone - which means recovery is going well and helps to break the days up.

I spent the afternoon up in the bedrooms, talking with Michelle and Emily mostly, but also visiting for a while with the other ladies.  Veronique and Carmen gave me a gift certificate for "Le Bath Room", which is just a few doors down from the hotel.  It totally surprised me, because I don't think I've really done anything to earn such treats, but I guess if nothing else, I helped Carmen from getting lost in the Metro.  I usually save gift certificates forever, but since I can't use it at home, I'll be off for a soak sometime next week!  I've promised to give a full report on what it's like, so watch for that later.

Carmen and I left when everyone went down for dinner.  We hit the IGA for a few things, stopped at a shop to buy a t-shirt that I'd seen for Veronique, then had dinner together in my room.  (I highly recommend the Renee's Wellness Blueberry, Pomegranate and Acai dressing - yummy!)  Then we walked back to a little place called Rockaberry for dessert.  Mine was a base of chocolate fudge so dense that I'm amazed it didn't collapse into a black hole, with a layer of raspberry and topped by about 15cm of an airy, whipped cheesecake - it was ridiculously tasty, but sadly I had to leave a few mouthfuls.

We walked back to the hotel and Carmen went back to her room to pack up and get ready to head back to BC tomorrow.  I ran a bath and tossed in one of the bubble bars I'd picked up earlier.  I had also picked up some face mask, so after a long soak, I now smell like chocolate, blueberry and honey.  Not a bad combination at all - hopefully, it will contribute to some sweet dreams.
