Well, until it does that is. But until you die, it just doesn't seem to slow down or give you a break or anything. Every night since we moved, it's either unpacking, shopping for things we decide we need in the new place or I'm off to do a treatment or two. We haven't had a chance to just sit and watch a movie or something for... weeks!
Except for this past weekend, when we headed out to the condo in Canmore. We went to dinner Saturday night at a new-ish place called Quarry. It's a place on Main Street, where the menu varies seasonally and they get all their main ingredients from Alberta and BC. Stuart had the special, which was an 8oz. steak with veggies, that he got rare and seemed to enjoy immensely. I had the short ribs which came on a bed of white beans, squash and spinach and it was amazing. (Not quite as good as The Swan in Toronto, but a darn close second!) It's been ages since I had a piece of beef that I could literally eat with a fork. Yummy! We both managed to squish in dessert as well - the roasted pear in maple creme anglais was gorgeous. It's moderately expensive - a little over $100 for 2 entrees, 2 desserts and (non-alcoholic) drinks, but the portions were generous and the quality was spectacular. With ski season firing up, I imagine that reservations are about to become a requirement and definitely don't go if you're on a schedule.
Which I mention because we just made our seats at the Eric Harvie theater for the Stuart McLean Vinyl Cafe Christmas show. It was a great show too - two new Morley and Dave stories, a short history of Stuart's childhood and what led to the CBC and of course, the music. The guests this year were Dala, a female duo that were ok, but hardly mindblowing and Russell deCarle, of Prairie Oyster fame. After decades with PO, he's touring in preparation for the release of a solo album in the spring. And hey, any album with yodeling on it has got to worth at least a listen!
We spent the rest of the weekend sleeping, playing Scrabble and watching most of Season 2 of "Torchwood". They are really jumping into more character development this season, and Ianto Jones especially has some killer lines. I was splitting my time between cowering and chortling - it was great. We also wandered across the road to the spa for a massage each. That was great! I keep forgetting that RMTs are covered under our Blue Cross, so we'll be doing more of that.
We packed everything up to head home at about 4:30 on Sunday and made our way to the highway. It had been snowing all day, but with no tv or radio, we hadn't been keeping up with the details. The highway was glowing gently, as the inch of glare ice reflected the light of the headlights. And there were cars lined up as far as we could see, with the usual assortment of idiots going too fast and too close together. We took one look and said, screw it, getting to work on time is not worth risking our lives; so we picked up some extra food and went back to the condo. The road was in better shape the next morning and we were in to work by shortly before 10.
This Thursday is the kids' party at work, so everything is focused on that. I am NOT doing the parties next year though - people do nothing but bitch and complain, but none of them are willing to step forward to help or make a suggestion and I'm tired of it. Dorks.

What this Swan you speak of, and where is it? And by the way, are you aware that a certain student of military history is engaged and due to be married in May, in Ottawa?
The Swan is here: http://maps.google.ca/maps?f=q&hl=en&geocode=&q=the+swan+restaurant,+toronto,+on&sll=43.657006,-79.425058&sspn=0.04825,0.111237&ie=UTF8&ll=43.657627,-79.400854&spn=0.048249,0.111237&z=14&iwloc=A
Granted it's been... yikes! 7 years?!?!? since I ate there, but it was amazing. Tiny place - reservations were absolutely a requirement.
Would this student of military history glory in the initials of G.T., by any chance? Marriage, babies, when did we all get old enough for this nonsence? Good for him though - please pass on my congrats and email, if he's interested.
