Busy, busy and sick - what a surprise

On Wednesday night, we took advantage of the brief increase in temperatures to take Ella and Myles to Zoolights. This is a big event at the Calgary Zoo, which is billed as the biggest Christmas light set-up in the country. I have no way to verify that, but it was big! Nothing out of the way in terms of what you see everywhere - just lots and lots and lots of it. There were light monkeys swinging through electric palm trees, a big pink, white and purple lover's lane, giant styrofoam blocks to build igloos and of course, many options to buy indifferent cookies and (acccording to Ella) yucky hot chocolate. By the end, it was definitely passed everyone's bed time, but overall, I think we had a good time.

The next day was the Kids' Christmas Party at work. It involved a fair amount of set-up and last minute running around by me and Erin, but for once we got a lot of thanks and appreciation afterwards, so that was ok. We'd picked up Ella from school and brought her along. She's no longer afraid of Santa, which was great, because she was originally disappointed in the books she got ("All the other kids have toys!!") but once Santa got all excited about them, she seemed much happier. In fact, she made him a stocking in thanks. Theresa gave us all Friday afternoon off after the insanity, which was a god-send. I slept for most of it, before Stuart and I headed over to Mike and Ang's for dinner.

Stuart had arranged to play FOW on both Saturday and Sunday, so I dropped him off at Small Soldier before venturing into the blistering cold for a very successful run of errands. I got a potted tree, finished my Christmas shopping and got a line on a new tank for Cleo, so I was very happy. This despite the small waves of nausea that I was starting to experience in the afternoon. We had a quiet night in and went to bed early - not long after which I got up to start a night of vomitting. At the time, I was composing a paragraph to describe it, but not being quite that sadistic, I won't share it. The actual upheaval stopped once I emptied my stomach, but I've spent Sunday and today with the aftereffects: weakness, muscle pain and a splitting headache, which I think argues for food poisoning over a bug, although who knows?

If I'd been diligent, I would have spent this afternoon unpacking and organizing, but the best I could manage was to wrap Christmas presents and make this entry. Better than nothing, I hope, although I think a nap is now called for.
