Countdown

It's now, what? a week until Christmas. Fortunately, I've basically recovered from my illness. I talked to Meg yesterday and it turns out that the whole family's been down with this stomach bug, so I blame it squarely on all the time spent with Ella recently. What age do they stop being little sickness vectors? Probably not for a while, sigh...

Winter has definitely set in. We've had super cold weather for a week now; by which I mean, top temperatures of -10 degrees and down to -40 degrees with the windchill, along with a basically continuous fall of snow. But even more than the weather, I know it's winter because the very low grade, ongoing nose bleed of 'dry as bone' Calgary winters has started. This is nothing spectacular, doesn't even really make it out of my nose most of the time - it's just annoying and tastes funny.

I just had news via Shoeless that an old friend is now engaged to be married. Oy! Pregnancies, marriages, aren't we old enough to be passed this nonsense? LOL I haven't talked to the gentlemen in question for years now, but he was part of the gang that we idolized in high school and again when we were all kicking around in University. He's a bit older than me, and as far as I know, this is his first marriage, so I have hopes that he's held out for someone of quality and it will all go swimmingly. The wedding will be in Ottawa and I doubt I'll be invited, but it doesn't matter - Shoeless still holds the record for farthest travel for a wedding. Given that I traveled from Edmonton to Singapore for that one, anyone who wants to contend may have to look at being solemnized off-planet.

Actually, that would be cool! Somebody - take up the challenge!

And the expense...
