Off to see the wizard

Michelle gets on a plane today and heads to Montreal to get started on all the last minute pre-operative necessities.  I'm sure there's paperwork and bloodwork and lord knows what... but I'm sure there's also going to be a lot of shaving cream and a razor whipped out at some point!  LOL  For some reason it brings to mind this cover shot:

I'm on a plane myself on Sunday.  Michelle will already be in the hospital, but Veronique and her partner can probably get her through any pre-event jitters.  My plan is to be there when she wakes up and carry on from there.  It's funny, but this one event is going to be so many things for Michelle (and, I imagine, for Veronique):
  • the culmination of a long path
  • the beginning of another long path
  • a major life altering event
  • and yet, also just the icing on the cake (as it were :) )
When I stop to think about it, I'm still just tickled and honored that I get such a good seat for the whole thing!

I can only see two downsides about the whole trip: 1) I can't afford to do the whole thing on vacation time, so I'll be remoting in to work part time and 2) I can't take Stuart and Ursa with me.  I think it's been hard on Stuart, because for both this and the China trip, I was the one going somewhere different with lots of stuff to distract me.  He gets stuck at home with his same old, same old and nothing to do but think about me not being there.  At least this time, he has Ursa to look after and play with, and I'm sure he'll survive.  He just won't be happy.  :(
