Counting down

Michelle got the catheter out today, which means (with the exception of a few stitches) she's back to 100% natural.  Yeah!  She's no longer doing the "Jane Wayne" shuffle and can sit more comfortably.  Veronique and Kate are doing very well, unfortunately Emily is having some problems.  She had to have her catheter put back in today.

I had weird dreams again last night, somehow involving being continuously chased by shape-changers.  I don't really remember the details, but I was pretty tired again this morning - I can't wait to get back to my own bed.  Once I'm done this blog, I'm going to go take a bath; my best night's sleep here was after my other bath!

I spent the morning doing more reading, had lunch and then ventured out into the rain.  I made my way from the hotel to the Metro by popping in and out of shops on the way.  I tried on some cool clothes, but didn't buy anything.  Nothing fit well enough to justify the cost (or maybe it all cost too much for stuff that didn't quite fit well enough.)    There was some lovely comfy cotton stuff, but even on sale it was $100 for two pieces.

As I was walking about today I took some notes and I'm ready to share some more thoughts on Montreal.  For some reason, giant bean bag chairs are hip right now.  I've seen them in a handful of stores; they're kind of tempting but I don't know how I'd get it home and I think Ursa would just decide it's a bed anyway.  I saw something else I really liked while shopping: taille voluptueuses!  Now that's a sizing description that I can get behind.  :)  And possibly because the shopping is so good, the men here are much better at accessorizing - I kind of wonder if there's anyway to transfer it across.

And, just in case you're thinking of coming to Montreal, some thoughts on food.  I'd planned to have dinner last night at a place down the block called Wok N' Roll, but it turned out they are only open for lunch.  Thank god for portable internet!  I found a place called Wok de Chef and it had a fair crowd so I thought I'd give it a chance.  It turned out to be the sort of place where you get a plate of beef that is just that - a plate of beef.  The sauces were quite tasty, but I think it would be the sort of place better for a group.  I got the sesame beef and eggplant and they both came with rice.  I had enough for dinner and leftovers for lunch.  It wasn't quite the mixed stirfry I was looking for, but it was ok.

On my way home today, I stopped at Une Crepe? for dinner.  I had a buckwheat crepe, filled with asparagus, ham and garlic marinated red peppers, with a salad on the side.  Yummy!  I'd have had a dessert crepe too, but I just didn't have space.  I might have to go back...  today's special was almond paste, pears and chocolate sauce.  :)

The French just have a much better sense of fashion.

I remember one of my teachers in Jr. High being Québecois, and she always had this great look about her. She wasn't particularly exceptional herself, but she knew how to make a look.

It's either genetic or cultural - possibly both!
