Busy weekend

'Cause when aren't the weekends busy? We drove up to Edmonton on Friday night and fortunately, this time Ursa didn't have any problems beyond her usual distaste for the car. It was hot when we left Calgary and hotter when we got to Edmonton, so I didn't sleep well all weekend. However, it didn't stop me from getting up Saturday morning to do some shopping with Mom.

The first thing on the agenda was a shower gift for Lindsey. I was assigned "summer" as my season, so I got her some ice cream dishes, spoons, coasters and Callebaut chocolate and karamel sauce. After that, we headed out to the mall to do some window shopping. Contrary to my shopping lately, I actually had some good luck! I bought a cute summer dress that was on sale, a new bra for running and some stuff at Sephora. Mom, Stuart and I grabbed some quick lunch at T&T, and then it was time for the shower.

Auntie Eileen and Peter's basement isn't finished yet, so the party Saturday afternoon was in their back yard. There was food, drinks and conversation, in addition to opening presents and some "shower" games: a contest to make a wedding gown out of toilet paper and a "Newlyweds" style Q&A. There were lots of people who I didn't know or have only met once, years ago, but it was still pretty fun.

Grandma came home for dinner with us and then Stuart, Mom and I headed to the Varscona Theater to see "Mother of the Year". I haven't laughed that much in quite a while. The story was set in mid-80's Edmonton, featuring the plots and schemes of two rival meatpacking families, after the head and father of one has died. Beware the mutant Beefalo! Many of my favorite Edmonton actors were involved and the whole thing was unabashedly over-the-top. Plus, a hat that my mom sold on consignment made an appearance, which was the perfect icing on the cake. After the show, we wandered around the corner to Marble Slab and had ice cream cones - what could be better?

Ursa had been in Dad's care this whole time and he gave her some pork bones. This has turned out to be a mistake. I don't know if it's the bones themselves, or just the one that she buried in the heat and left for a few hours before eating, but it didn't do good things to her digestion. She was antsy through most of the night and managed to do her business on my parents' carpeting several times. Thank god for that Little Green Machine!

On Sunday, we ran a few errands and then stopped at Fast Trax. Not because Stuart's shoes were in, but so that I could try some on. Yep, I'm going to give running a try, although I don't promise that it will last. :) Of course, they didn't have the pair that seemed the best in my size, so they've ordered them in. And I also bought myself a pair of these. They do feel a bit weird, but I loved the sense of the ground that you get (I may change my mind, the first time I step on a pointy rock - we'll see.)

The drive home was hot and crowded and Ursa was sick in the car again, but we still made fairly good time. We just have to make it through this week and then we have a little better than a week off for holidays. Phew!
