Ursa's arrival on Tuesday went as well as could be hoped. Of course, there were a lot of customs hoops to jump through, GST and handling to be paid, etc. but in the end we had a beautiful black puppy. She was pretty calm, all things considered, as was happy to get her ears scratched and have a bunch of food and water. She wasn't pleased about getting back in the crate for the drive home but she did well.
We've started house training, crate training and all the little things - what's good to chew and what isn't, how to walk on the leash, how to play with her toys. She's really smart and picks up on stuff very fast, but she still isn't happy about the crate. Neither would I be, given the circumstances, so it's a little easier to be patient with her.
She's met a couple of other dogs and behaved very well, she made it through our bbq on Saturday with flying colours, it's been great. On the other hand, we have to get up in the middle of the night to take her out, she's had some accidents in the house, she has a weird desire to chew rocks and she makes the most blood curdling noises when you put her in the crate. Last week was very long and I foresee that mild sleep deprivation will be a feature for a while yet. At least Megan is feeling some mild form of vindication!
