Fumes and early birthday

Stuart and I drove up to Edmonton this weekend. It was finally a nice drive up, with warmth and sunlight and not crazy cross-winds on the highway. We stopped in Olds for a sub dinner as usual and it was very pleasant.

Saturday morning, we were up by 8-ish and Stuart ran out for Cobb's cheese-filled croissants, which we can't get at home, thanks to the silly Calgary Health people. After breakfast, Stuart and Dad spent about an hour helping us move furniture, remove fixtures and tape edges. After that, Mom and I started in on painting. We did repainted most of the main floor of the condo (entry, dining room and living room) which involved a lot more corners and edges than I would have chosen, but what can you do? It had been a creamy white with two dark, rust red accent walls. Now it's a chromatic light blue grey and will have one darker blue accent wall. It went as well as any paint job ever does and I like the end result. Mom is doing what she always does with a big change - hedging - but I think the others will like it too.

I had to bail on the painting at around 3:00pm to grab a quick shower and head downtown for our haircut appointment. Stuart met me there after his May Days gaming extravaganza and we went to Red Lobster to meet his family for my birthday dinner. It was a better meal than I've had there the last couple of times and since we followed it up with dessert at Vi's for Pies, I was a happy camper! I ended the day with a bath and slept like the dead.

Not surprisingly, I was a bit stiff Sunday morning, but another round of painting and touch-ups helped work that out. We packed up our gear and headed out to meet Laurie back at Vi's for lunch. We has a nice chat and horrible service, but good food. We swung by Grandma's to program her vcr, detoured to Mission Fun & Games to pick up an expansion set and then hit the road for home.
