No good deed goes unpunished

I mentioned earlier that I had donated some blood upstairs for some neutrocyte research. She called me up yesterday and asked if I'd mind giving a little more. It turns out that because of my allergies, my neutrocytes are already "twitchy" and it's too hard to distinguish between my control cells and the "stimulated" ones. Ha! However, my monocytes are just fine for a different experiment, so that's what I was up to donate today.

We decided to use the left arm today, just for variety, but there was some problem with the vein - it may have been closer to the surface than she thought - so she only got about a tube and a half before the line went dry and it started pumping out of the hole. Oops! So we put some pressure on that one and she tapped the right arm instead. 8 full vials and a wee bit in the 9th later and we were done. Because it was about 40mg this time, I got a $10 gift card - whee! More than enough recompense for contributing to science and looking like a junkie. :)

In weather news, it's turning into a strange spring (not that we've had "normal" weather for a while now.) Yesterday morning we had wet snow, which meant that I walked to work through something like ankle deep Slurpee. By the afternoon, the sun was out, the temperature was +7C and the melt had progressed to working on old snow. This morning's climb was done over frozen melt water, but I managed to make it in one piece. The sun is out and it's up to +7C again, but I'm told that anything in the shadows is still frozen. I have to drive to DeWinton tonight to see a client, so I expect it'll snow again.
