Castle in the Sky

Nathan Fillion, beloved by those who saw him doing improv in Edmonton or more widely as the captain in "Firefly", has a new show. "Castle" has been described as "Murder, She Wrote" with a male protagonist and, I would add, a slightly updated feel. Rick Castle is a single dad, his murder mysteries are a bit gorier than Angela would ever have imagined and the detective is also a potential romantic interest.

So far, Stuart and I have watched the first two episodes, and I have to say I like it. He was still projecting a bit "Mal"-ish in the first episode, but Castle's character was starting to distinguish itself in the second episode. The detective, played by Stana Katic, is a bit stereotypical in her insistance that she isn't stereotypical, but hopefully the writers will outgrow that. In two episodes, I haven't guessed right yet about the killer and we've had a lot of laughs, so what more can you ask for?

According to IMDB, there are ten episodes in the can, but I have no idea what the broadcast schedule is, so we'll just watch up as they turn up. Given what's happened to other good TV shows lately (Dead Like Me, Pushing Daisies, etc.) if it's any good, I expect it'll get the axe just as it gets interesting. Sigh.
