Yup, my Dad decided to jump on the Mac bandwagon and since I'm a University employee, I "bought" it. I get the Educational Discount and they are currently having a promotion where, if you buy a computer, you can get a refund on the purchase of an 8GB nano or iPod Touch.
So, I've been sitting here playing with my new Touch. As a replacement for Stuart's turn of the century black & white PDA with the dying screen - well, it's frickin' fantastic! At 8GB, I'm not going to be loading my iTunes library or watching a lot of movies, but that's just icing anyway. I love that screen resolution now means that I can get a thumbnail description of my appointments on the main screen, instead of having to tap into every gray square to remind myself what I've booked. I love that it has basically infinite contact list options, for those of you with 4 email addresses, 3 phone numbers, 2 URLs and 2 snail mail addresses. I've had great fun learning what a wild web of wifi nets I've been blundering through unknowingly and been simultaneously happy and disappointed to find that people are a lot more security conscious than they were when wireless internet first made an appearance. I still haven't found an open wifi network to try out the internet functions, but I will...
Colour, of course, is loverly and the new iTunes feature of scrolling through album art is much less annoying on the Touch than it is on the computer. Just fun to play with really! At first, I found the very small alphabet buttons hard to work with, but after about 2 minutes, I had adjusted. I'm faster tapping the screen than I ever got using the highly annoying graffiti writer thing on the PDA.
I'm sure there will be annoying things about it that will come along (reading the woes of iPhoners, it will probably be with the apps) but for now, I'm very happy! BTW, if you are reading this and think I might not have up-to-date contact information for you, please feel free to send it along. (Wayne, I'm looking at you, here...)
