Birthday review

If you've been reading my blog for a while, you likely know that I love celebrating my birthday.  A whole day when I get presents and people tell me how much they like me? Oh yeah, I'm down with that!

This year, my birthday fell mid-week, so Stuart and I both took the day off work.  I slept in, which was lovely.  I got up in time for breakfast (which Stuart prepared for me) and to be chauffeured to my massage appointment.  After my massage, we went across the street to The Lazy Loaf for lunch.  (We have been trying a low-carb diet recently - I must blog about that! - but decided to put it on hold for celebratory purposes.) I had a half sandwich on onion and olive bread (yummy!) and a salad.

We ran a few errands on our way home to give Ursa her lunch and some outside time, before heading to the theater.  Marvel has been kindly offering up a new movie almost every year just in time for my birthday for quite a while, so we saw The Avengers in a barely 30% full theater.  I loved it! I love Joss Whedon.  It had some plot, some character development, awesome CGI (of course) and a healthy dose of the witty repartee and one liners that I adore.  The scene with Loki and The Hulk in the boss fight had me laughing until there were tears running down my face.  As Stuart said, he plans to buy the DVD at full price, just to watch that scene again.  And again. And... probably again.  :D

After the movie, we went home and took Ursa for her long walk for the day. I can't express how much relief Stuart and I feel seeing her moving well again.  Watching her gimp around or even refuse to move because her elbow hurt so much was just heart breaking.  I'm very thankful to the wonderful lady I met through the Facebook BRT group, who told me about the Cartrophen and provided amazing advice and support.

We'd discussed many options for dinner.  Our fav rib restaurant has closed, a restaurant that I bought a Groupon for has closed (I did get my money back though!) and a gift certificate we were given can only be used on Sundays.  Yup, that's weird. However, there is a fancy restaurant in the provincial park that we live next to and we'd always talked about trying it.  So we decided to go for it.

It's in the old ranch house next to the river, so the view is amazing. I found the ambiance to be a bit much - they were trying to be very upscale and just kinda came up snobbish. The food was very good, but not as tasty or as interesting to quite warrant what they were charging for it, in my opinion.  There are other places in the same price range that I'd much rather spend my money at.  So it was nice and I enjoyed it, but I don't think we'll be going back of our own volition.

I polished off my day with a long hot soak in the tub before bed.  It was a lovely day!
