February's visit home

This past weekend was another exciting trip to Edmonton.  February is a busy events month: Stuart's birthday, our anniversary, Ella's birthday, Stuart's Grandma's birthday... not to mention that whole Valentine's Day thing. So we kinda combined some events.

We got our hair cut on Saturday and I saw Rhonda's mom Sandy there.  It was a very quick conversation, but since I was tired and bedraggled, I have to wonder what exactly got reported back to the girls?  I'm in the mood for some hair colour, but I don't think Marghie was too impressed with my color choices - I was sent home with some DIY semi-permanents.  Yeah!  Cheaper and I can swap up whenever I like!

Saturday night we went out to Chili's for dinner and the guests were: Stuart's parents, my parents, Stuart's sister and her new boyfriend Kelly.  The food was good and the conversation wasn't too awkward (although I didn't hear everything, I didn't catch any long pauses or gasps of horror, so we'll run with it.)  We went to his parents' place for dessert afterward which was a bit disappointing.  I'd done a day of email relays with his mom after she asked me what he'd like and in the end she got Superstore cheesecakes.  Oh well.

Our anniversary was actually on the Friday and his present was too big for transporting needlessly, so he opened it before we left.  I got a present for us, actually - a two person hammock with a stand to put up in the backyard.  His gift to me continued the snuggley "us" theme; matching barrel sleeping bags that are set up to zip together.  They are too big/heavy to cart into the back country, but at least I'll be able to snuggle when we're car camping!

On Sunday, my Mom caught a bus to Calgary and then I went with Dad and Stuart went to our preferred dim sum restaurant to celebrate Chinese New Year.  We had all our favorite items and it was really quite nice.  Then I dropped the boys at home and went to Reitman's, hoping to replace my fav (and only) jeans, which sprang a hole that day.  Oh frabjous day - they were having a sale.  Contrary to my usual shopping excursions, I bought 2 pairs of pants, 2 vests and 4 shirts and the total bill was $46!  And the icing on the cake was that I got to buy a size smaller pants!  I was doing the Snoopy happy dance all day.  :))

Which probably explains Monday.  Normally we head home Sunday afternoon, but Stuart needed to see our GP, so we booked a day off and our annual physicals.  We had the second and third appointments of the day, but she was already running almost 2 hours behind!  And I talked to her about my ongoing skin troubles.  The good news is that I was right and it's not ezcema.  The bad news is that it is still a problem; called dermatographic urticaria.  And the treatment is daily antihistamines and moisturizer.  Ugh.

We had thought to head home after our appointments, but although it was bright and sunny in Edmonton, southern Alberta was being hammered with a big ol' blizzard.  The highways were open, we could have given it a shot, but by the time we packed up and got going, we were guaranteed to be hitting Calgary in the middle of rush hour, as the sun went down, with major accumulations of fresh snow.  We decided to wait and go on Tuesday.  I'm glad we did, because although most of the car-nage had been cleared away, it was obvious from the churned snow, wrecked barricades and random debris that Monday was not a fun day on the highway.

Over the weekend, I also saw some Edmonton clients and watched Easy A on my parents' pay per view.  I thought it was well done and freakin' hilarious, but I don't think I'd put it up for movie of the year.  It was a perfect relaxin' and laughin' offering in the middle of my busy weekend though.
