In other news, last night was a rare total lunar eclipse on the solstice. Stuart and I went out to check out the moon last night at about 10:30 - it was crystal clear, but nothing was happening yet. We went to bed, but I spent hours tossing and turning. I don't know if it was a subconscious desire to see the eclipse or something else, but I just couldn't get deeper asleep than a cat nap. At 3:30am, I gave up trying and got all bundled up to head back outside. Ursa snored until she heard the zip on my boots, and then she was at the back door in a shot! We went out and there still wasn't a cloud in the sky, but apparently I'd missed the whole show. Ursa sat on my feet for a bit as we looked at the blindingly bright moon, then I decided to head back in to bed. Puppy took some convincing - she wanted to stay outside and play in the snow.
My right shoulder started trying to knot up last week and Crystal kindly beat it into submission. However, it's at it again today. I don't know if she just postponed things or if it's a reaction to the cold and lack of sleep last night, but I'm not enjoying it. She offered a session on Thursday, but she's nursing a cracked vertebrae and a concussion, so I'm saving that as a last ditch option. Maybe if I ask nicely, Stuart will poke and prod it for me tonight for a bit.
The other source of tension is the car. Or the lack of one. Or the lack of information regarding one. I dropped off our Kia at the body shop on Dec. 2. When I asked the guy at the shop how long I should expect them to have it, the incredibly helpful response was, "Ooooh, a couple of weeks, probably?" Don't look at me, buddy! Last Monday I called to ask for an update; she didn't know off hand and promised to call back "right away." When she left a message hours later, it said we'd "have the car back by December 24."
That still seemed awfully ambiguous to us, so on Saturday, Stuart and I went to the shop in person. I told the guy behind the counter that we had plans to be out of town for Christmas and that our current loaner car was not sufficient for the trip, and thus we needed to know whether or not we'd have the car, so we could make arrangements with the rental company if needed. He gave me this whole song and dance about how they are working at capacity and were doing their best to get all the cars back by Christmas. He would talk to the shop manager on Monday and make arrangements for a different rental, if they couldn't get the Kia to us by the 23rd.
The thing that I truly don't understand is that to the best of my (limited) knowledge, they have to repair and/or replace two body panels. I think that with the proper tools, the parts and a manual, I could do that in less than 3 weeks. And if there turned out to be more damage than was apparent, how hard would it be to say so??? So, why are they taking on more work than they can handle? The Kia was drivable, just a bit ugly. I would have been much happier keeping it until the New Year and then giving it to them for a week.
On the plus side, I've started Christmas early by opening gifts from friends. So far,
So, I bitch and moan, but really - it could be SOOO much worse and I've very glad that it's not!!

Hope your mom had a great birthday!
Too bad about the eclipse. I heard that some people near us caught a glimpse or two through the clouds, but we didn't even try. It was raining after all.
Bummer about the car! I hope you can beat the repair people into submission.
Mom went to see the new Harry Potter movie and then had dinner with dad and grandma - so I think she had fun! Thanks. :)
Did I say "repair man" somewhere generic?
The reason I emphasized "repair person" was because you were talking about beating your shoulder into submission, and I substituted. :)
Love the new design!
Aaaahhh... brain no function good right now.
Thank you, I was playing in between working. It's hard to concentrate when the new co-worker is asking another question every 3 minutes. I don't mind - glad to help! - but hard to hold a train of thought... especially with my brain misbehaving!
NEED this vacation time!
