Our financial system sucks

I know, I know... that was hardly in doubt!

As further evidence, I submit this. We just got the notifications of our annual cost of living and increment increases. My gross pay went up $263.50, but my take home pay went up $77.81. Somehow they need another $185.69 of my pretty slim pay cheque???

I wouldn't mind so much if I thought I was getting something for my money, but I truly believe that theory and reality start moving in opposite directions at that point. I'm not going to start enumerating the ways in which our government falls short, 'cause we all have our favourites. And yes, really I should count my blessings for what I have: roof over my head, good food, relative safety on the streets... but for a fifth of my monthly earnings, I don't feel guilty that I expect more.

Nor do I feel much hope that I'll get it.
