Girls taking their clothes off

Last night, Stuart, Steve and I went to the First Annual Amateur Burlesque competition, at the Broken City lounge. We decided to go early and have dinner there first, in order to secure good seats. That turned out to be a great idea in theory, but somewhat problematic in practice. It's not a particularly big place and the stage is situated about half way down a long, narrow space. The few booths were taken when we got there, but we did get one of half a dozen bar tables in front of the stage. Dinner was tasty enough for pub food, the sweet potato fries were a stand-out, being nice and crispy and not swimming in grease.

We got there around 7:30, in anticipation of dinner and a 9:15 start time. About 8:30 the place started to fill up and the waitress came around to say that they were going to take away the tables and chairs to make more space. Now, my feet may be doing better, but I had absolutely no interest in standing on concrete in place for 3+ hours. In the end, the place was packed far beyond their fire allowance, but we pushed our table out of the way and got to keep it. Yeah!!!

The show itself was pretty good. There were four girls competing in the amateur show and I'd rate two of them as quite enjoyable. One girl was... VERY voluptuous, but goodness me, she had slinky sexuality nailed. The other girl was built more along modern lean lines and she was very comfortable, obviously having fun and did a very traditional sort of performance. In the end, they placed first and second - 'cause the judges agreed with my excellent taste, natch!

After the competition, a local group called The Kabuki Guns Burlesque did several numbers, along with one of the judges, a performer from Vancouver named Rosy Bitts. They were quite good and, except for the facts that we had to crane around 3 amazons who inexplicably decided to stand right in front of us and that the music was far too loud, we all had fun. We also talked briefly with Dionne and some friends of hers who'd also come to the show.

Now, the next outing to plan is the drag show (remarkably similar really: mascara, sequins and outrageous costumes!)
