Yup, Calgary got it's first snow of the season, which made the walk to work a bit interesting. There wasn't lots of snow, just enough to mostly cover the lawns. Which was kind of funny, actually, since from a distance, all of this brand new snow looked kind of dirty and dingy. It wasn't 'til you got up close that you realized that what looked like dirt was actually the longer stems of grass, poking up through the snow.
At any rate, very few people had bothered to shovel (the forecast today was for 10 degrees C, so I'm sure they were hoping it would melt) so it was a compacted mess of ice and lumps. The few walks that had been cleared were covered with the lightest skim of frozen frost/dew that was downright treacherous to walk on. It was your standard damned if you do and damned if you don't scenario. But at least the ice on the shoveled walks will have evaporated in todays' actual high of 1 degree, while the unshoveled walks will remain a hazard.
This brings to mind the lovely MBTs as well. My current pair have basically smooth soles and are NOT appropriate for Canadian winters. Since I wasn't completely happy with the fit of the boots, I think I'll take a look at the soles and try to find something a little more ice friendly instead.
A shop-a-holics' work is never done. LOL
