I hinted earlier that I was implementing a new plan regarding how I pay my rent, groceries, etc. And no, it's not call girl... Somehow around here I end up doing all the posters and advertising for events, and every time I ask the ladies to proof them, Carmen says the same thing, "You are so good at that, why are you working here?" I think it's funny, because I'm not a great artist, I just assemble existing bits using the various programs.
Well, I was talking to a friend who works as a designer for a printing company and I told her about all of that. She said, "I can't draw at all, I just do the same thing - put stuff together." And I went, hmmm.... So, the long and short of it is that the UofC Continuing Ed program offers a visual design certificate and I get to take 4 classes a year for free. Starting in January, I will be taking the Color Theory course. If I stick with just free courses, I can be done in 2 years. Depending on how life goes, I may pay the $$$ just to speed that up!
I'd been thinking about their Web Administrator certificate for a while, but hadn't done anything about it. Basically, I don't really care about the computer stuff per se, I just like the idea of setting up useful, functional websites. (It's amazing how many appalling websites there are using up space.) So I may still look into some HTML training, etc. but it's not my first priority; I'll just design 'em and get someone else to build them. :)
I don't have too many illusions about this - I'd still have to deal with people and businesses and politics and bureaucracies and junk, but at least there is a slightly greater chance for more money in exchange for my remaining sanity. And it would be a change of pace for a week or two!
