New beds and old fun

Well, this has been a fun weekend. Ever since we moved to Calgary, Stuart and I have agreed that the bed just didn't survive. We've rotated it every which way, to no avail. We've talked several times about buying a new one, but there's always some other expense and so we don't. Right now, Sleep Country is having their much advertised "Mix & Match" sale, so I said, "Why don't we at least go and look and find out about how much we'd have to save up?"

The sales lady was named Fern and she acted like a strange combo of your weird maiden aunt and a car salesman. Good points all around, but I always find it a bit strange when folks use lines straight out of the 'how to sell' class, without personalizing them at all. At first I wonder, how stupid go they think I am? This often swings rapidly around to how stupid are they? She was nice though and she was good at cutting to the point, so that we'd found what we liked within 15 minutes or so. The sale price was just over $1000 - not bad in the bed market, which can climb from the ridiculous to the sublime quite quickly! (Although maybe not quite as quickly as the bedding prices...)

So then it was time for the debate. If we dropped a grand on a bed, then moving would be out of the question - did we want to sleep well or have space for when we aren't sleeping? Then Fern sprang the deal closer: zero interest financing. The car, the bed - why can't we get 0% on a house? The only tricky point was a delivery time; our schedule is so crazy, but we finally settled on September 7. Now we just have to wait. (I'm kinda hoping we'll find another place and can just have it taken straight there, but we'll see.)

Today, we finally went to Heritage Park. For those of you who are Edmonton-originating friends, it's basically Calgary's version of Fort Edmonton. It was stinkin' hot today (at least 30 degrees) but with the breeze and shade it was manageable. We went out on the reservoir on the paddle boat and road the train around. They also have an amusement park, where you can ride the Ferris Wheel, the carousel and go on the Whip. The Ferris Wheel was very romantic and Stuart un-proposed to me! We had sausage rolls and ice cream cones and a lovely wander around looking at old stuff.

Now we're back home, about to bbq steaks and waiting for the thunderstorms to roll in. Since the next month of weekends will be madness and then I leave for China, I was glad to have the chance to relax!
