A couple of weeks ago, Stuart and I received some mail order goods, including some nifty new umbrellas from GoLite. I used mine quite a bit when we were at Sinister 7 and with it's silvery coating, it reflected quite a bit of sunlight. The temperature difference under the umbrella versus being in direct sunlight was very noticeable.
Today, on my way to work, there was some unexpected rain with crazy gusts of wind. I saw several umbrellas get whipped inside out or bent permanently sideways. Not mine! Those carbon fiber spars bent like no one's business - several times the fabric was actually wrapped around the post of the umbrella! - but when the gust passed, the spars just popped right back into position. I only had two problems: seeing through the fabric and wondering if my wrists would hold up! I LOVE my umbrella!
Oh, and it does a terrific job of keeping the rain off, too.
