Mea culpa, mea culpa
Category: Life

Eeek! My last post was May 19th?!?!?!?! Life has been super, incredibly busy, so I'll just try and hit the highlights. *deep breath*

First thing, my neck is doing a whole lot better. I ended up taking off two full weeks and it worked well. I relaxed, did my physio, took my drugs and everything is back to about 99%. I've been back at work for two weeks now and I still don't have a decision from workers' comp. I expect I'll end up eating the lost pay.

Stuart and I have been on three camping trips to date. Two car camping excursions: one to Kananaskis for the Grant MacEwan Mountain Club season kick-off (the Owl Howl and Prowl.) That was fun - he ran around Mount Yamneska and I did the Prairie View hike with 8 other club members. 10km with 300m of elevation (most of it in about 3.5km!) - not bad for my first hike of the season. Then we went down to Drumheller, which was fun but wet. I have never seen the badlands so green! We did all the perennial favs: suspension bridge, hoodoos and the new exhibits at the Tyrell Museum.

And finally, just this past weekend, Stuart led another club trip on a "beginner" backpacking trip to Helmut Falls. 15km with about 350m of elevation - he promised me it wouldn't be hard, but most of the elevation was in a series of switchbacks that were a bit rough. Especially since it was my first time in ages carrying a backcountry pack - 25+lbs. Urk! Thank god he's a manly gentleman and took the lion's share of stuff (I think his pack was closer to 45lbs!) Plus one of the bridges was out, so we got to wade across a knee-deep glacial stream that was 3-5m across. COLD!!! The weather was almost perfect though, not too hot, and rain only overnight and about an hour on the way back. The falls are the tallest in Canada and just spectacular! I'll post pictures when I get a moment.

We also went to see the Police when they hit town. I love the Police and there was no way I was missing out on probably my only chance to see them live. There were four of us: Stuart, me, Mom and David 3. I think we all had a good time, even though our seats were at the far end of the stadium from the stage. Personally, I think they did an outstanding job of re-working the songs enough to be interesting without losing the essence of what made them great in the first place. The only downer was that they sold out of the t-shirt I wanted before I got to the merch booths. Bah!

I'm sure I'm missing all sorts of things, but the last bit of news that comes to mind is that Stuart gave his two weeks notice at Camper's Village yesterday. He doesn't have it yet, but he's had two of three interviews for a new position and they're just working out the timing for the third. It's difficult because the interviewer and the position are in Calgary. Yes, dear readers, there's a chance I may be re-locating to cowpoke central. Nothing is set in stone yet, but we have our fingers crossed. The position would increase Stuart's pay by a chunk and give him more room for advancement. There's a bigger audience for alternative health there so I might get more clients and as a secretary I can always find a job. Kay and Dave and my sister's family are there. And, of course, it is SO much closer to the mountains!

I will try and keep on top of the updates from now on.

Ciao!
